Samenvatting

This is the fourth annual report for Scotland’s Road Safety Framework since the Framework was published in June 2009. Scotland’s Road Safety Framework was the first national road safety plan in Scotland in over a decade. It sets out commitments over the next 10 years for safer roads in Scotland. The Framework also introduced for the first time Scottish road safety targets for casualty reduction: 40% reduction in fatalities; 55% reduction in serious injuries; 50% reduction in children killed, and 65% reduction in children seriously injured - based on a 2004-2008 average. The Framework is a collaborative document supported by partners in road safety across Scotland including local authorities, the fire and rescue service and the police. The 2012 Annual Report covers a wide range of road safety issues including drug driving, young drivers, drink driving, motorcyclists, distraction, drivers from abroad, rural roads and seatbelts.
