Samenvatting

This paper has attempted to bring together the clinical evidence concerning restraint system injuries, discuss gross biomechanical mechanism of trauma, and evaluate the potential of four principal types of restraint systems in producing injuries. New research findings by the authors are presented comparing the lap belt, diagonal, 3-point, and double torso restraint systems in experimental primate impacts utilizing the 657Ist Aeromedical Research Laboratory's Daisy Decelerator, as well as discussion of findings of date related to the effect of the lap belt in impact upon the pregnant female and fetus.
