Samenvatting

The 10 papers in this Record address segmental concrete wall systems, the use of geogrid for reinforcement of foundation soils, and soil nailing. The first six papers provide information of the design, construction, standards, and specifications of geosynthetic reinforced mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining walls faced with segmental concrete blocks. The next paper, by Wang and Wang, reports on performance data concerning the internal stability of retaining structures with cohesive soil backfill reinforced by polypropylene strips. The paper by Alston and Crowe presents two case histories that included information in the design, construction, and performance of low retaining wall systems that are laterally restrained by soil nail anchors. The final two papers discuss the results of laboratory model studies of strip and square foundations on geogrid-reinforced sand.
