Samenvatting

The PROMETHEUS programme has investigated a number of technologies and systems to enhance driving safety and efficiency. Some of the vehicle based demonstrators have made use of the infrastructure provided information to give direct driver information or to support technology on board the vehicle. An important medium for that communication is the Short Range Communication with roadside beacons. The PROMETHEUS steering committee selected 5.8 GHz microwave systems available from a group of suppliers. This paper describes the interoperable systems from Bosch and GEC-Marconi used at the PROMETHEUS Board Members Meeting in 1994. Brief details are provided of: the short range communications system, including information about systems architecture, and communication protocol. (A)
