Samenvatting

This report presents an overview of the work done in the DRIVE-II programme on on-line real-time short-term traffic forecasting techniques in inter-urban areas. The following projects are described: (1) the DYNA project; (2) the EUROCOR project; (3) the GERDIEN project; (4) the PLEIADES project; (5) the QUO VADIS project; and (6) the RHAPIT project. The report gives an overview per project of: a) the objectives and decision context; b) the technique used; c) the field trial; and d) the evaluation plan. In addition, a cross-project summary is given. The projects cover a wide range of techniques, used in a variety of applications. Recommendations are given for both a common terminology and an evaluation report structure. The report reflects the status of the projects at the end of the year 1993. Most projects will conduct their field trial in the summer of 1994. It is proposed to organise a workshop at the end of 1994 during which projects results will be reported.
