Samenvatting

This synthesis will be of interest to maintenance managers, maintenance engineers, and others concerned with the periodic problems associated with the day-to-day maintenance of highways. Information is presented on discovery and response systems applicable to short-term responsive maintenance needs. The development and implementation of short-term responsive maintenance systems (STRMS) can be effective in handling permanent or temporary repairs. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes and discusses the short-term responsive maintenance systems in effect in several states. It describes how these special maintenance needs are detected, reported, evaluated, and managed, and notes how new technology can assist maintenance managers. (A)
