In the literature between January 1982 and September 1985, no study compared bicyclist's deaths for helmet users with non users. All of the research articles reviewed had failings. The Australian law must be revised, followed by compulsory helmet usage legislation. This legislation should be five year "sunset" legislation, enabling empirical data on compulsory helmet use to be collected and evaluated.
