Qualitative and quantitative relations between information processing of the driver and some traffic parameters are to be shown. A simulation model is set up which can be applied for crossings at any traffic volume and differing visibility. A measuring procedure to calibrate the simulation model and to show quantitative relations between observation behaviour (e.g. head movements) and traffic parameters is demonstrated. The results show that observation behaviour of the driver on the secondary street depends on the visibility and the traffic conditions in the main street influencing the capacity of the crossings in a characteristic manner.
