Firstly it will be pointed out which are the conditions, transport tanks for dangerous goods are or may be exposed during normal service and incidents according to requirements being included in codes of practice respectively regulations like ADR. Then some annotations on the environments that transport tanks for dangerous goods can be expected to experience in transportation accidents will be made. Differences between a vast number of tank types and their accidental behaviour - their ability to withstand accidental loadings - have to be stated. Relevant characteristics have to be realised analytical and/or experimentally - detailed and quantified - to reach a safety level assessment of various tank types. Therefore experimental simulations have been carried out, leading to the realisation of safety levels for various tank types and their compatibility. Finally it will be demonstrated that tank types comparable according to relevant regulations are not necessarily comparable regarding safety level assessment based on experimental simulation, which may lead to the necessity to develop further tank related regulations for transport of dangerous goods.
