This issue of Current Topics includes over 85 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles which focus on the safety measures in cars to protect against side impacts. Articles are included on side impact crash tests, anthropometric dummies specifically designed for side impact, strengthening in the sides of cars and airbags for side impact. Also included are the types of injuries associated with side impact accidents and test of the effects of side impact on child safety seats. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 2001 and 2004. Much of the relevant English language published literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) database.
