Samenvatting

It is intended to show the significance of the typical oncoming traffic accident with only partial overlap of the colliding vehicles for the injury severity of the involved occupants based on accident data. An additional crash test procedure corresponding to this frontal collision configuration is derived on the basis of real world frontal accidents. The effectiveness of this so-called offset crash test will be documented by comparison of injury severity frequencies in correlation to different accident severity classes for some offset and non-offset designed Mercedes-Benz models.
