Samenvatting

This paper describes a simplified approach to the estimation of urban travel demands, within a structure that is directly responsive to the changing socio-demographic profile of expanding urban areas. The specific objectives for the paper are as follows: (1) To describe the structure of the simplified travel demand model; (2) To briefly describe the home-interview, origin-destination survey procedures undertaken recently in the cities of Marrakech and Puebla; and (3) To review and compare the applications of the travel demand model to a city of the developed world (Montreal) and cities of the developing world (Marrakech, Puebla). Conclusions are drawn regarding modifications to the model modifications to the model structure to better reflect key variations in the different urban contexts. (A)
