The "Leyden Centraal Project" is an example plan of the fourth study on the Dutch spatial planning Extra (VINEX) environment policy. This project provides in the design of a compact bus station. This design contains two variants: (1) one bus station with 7 twofold points of departure; and (2) the design of the other station was the same, with 3 extra twofold points of departure on another location. The municipality of Leyden had a simulation study done in order to gauge the need for space. It was tested for several timetables, if the various designs work. For this purpose, and with the help of the PROSIM simulation language, a simulation model was developed and was put into practise. It occurred that certain assumptions occurred that certain assumptions underlying the simulation had to be changed as to improve the results. Also thanks to the animation tool of PROSIM an insight was developed into the nature and cause of the risen bottlenecks. Taking on a new set of assumptions, it has occurred that with dynamic assignment the compact design of 7 twofold points of departure can handle the present timetable without problems worth mentioning. If there is to be a major extension of the timetable in the future, the 3 extra points of departure, as designed, may be needed. (A)
