Samenvatting

In our society, mobility becomes more and more important. The consequence of individual mobility is an increasing traffic volume that has to be handled on infrastructure with a restricted capacity. Instead of expanding the infrastructure, new solutions are needed in order to prevent gridlocks. One possibility to face the problem is the implementation of new traffic management technologies like the Integrated Incident Management (IIM) to influence traffic in sensitive road networks for example on motorways with adjacent urban road networks. The objective of IIM Strategies (IIMS) is to create arrangements for taking influence on the traffic by alternative route guidance, speed control and distribution of traffic information. The paper describes how the development of those IIM Strategies is supported by specific simulation tools.
