Simulation has for years been seen as a useful tool for designing ITS installations. With faster than real-time speeds, it might now move into individual journey planning. This article discusses the potential of ITS systems including: the ability to maximise the efficiency of a system, allowing people to travel easily and obtain logistical information, and modelling to test a set of predetermined scenarios. Future development of ITS and microsimulation, and other technologies, are also discussed. For the covering abstract see ITRD E139966.
