Samenvatting

The contribution of route choice simulators to the assessment of drivers' response to in-vehicle or roadside information and route guidance is discussed. One such simulator, VLADIMIR, is described. Tests to validate its use in the study of route choice are described and some results are presented. The use of simulators to assess the impact of a variety of forms of in-vehicle and roadside information and guidance is described and the implications of the results for the evaluation and modelling of RTI and IVHS systems are outlined with particular emphasis on the need to adopt unconventional model structures.
