This paper describes the SIREDO system for measuring a range of traffic data. This supplies measurements on vehicle flow, speed, length, shape, and weight, and it uses standard equipment and data exchange procedures. The equipment consists of data acquisition stations at the roadside connected to sensors installed in the pavement, and communications modules to distribute the data to operators' computer systems. Sensors are inductive loops and a piezo-ceramic weighbar. Information generated can be used in traffic statistics, maintenance planning, designing and traffic management. The paper gives an example of SIREDO in use to collect data on heavy goods vehicles.
