Generally speaking, sleepiness has a peak early in the morning and a little lower peak in the afternoon. The drivers of freight trains and night trains are on duty at night, and sometimes early in the morning. Therefore, it is conceivable that they feel sleepiness early in the morning. As for the drivers of passenger trains, service may begin early in the morning. It is unknown how much they feel sleepiness during their service time. So, the present condition was grasped by implementing a questionnaire survey of passenger train drivers. Its results showed that they felt much sleepiness in the morning or afternoon and at night. As this result was different from that of a preceding research, another survey was carried out. Its results showed that the difference in the work schedule was the reason why the tendency of sleepiness is different between the results of survey 1 and the preceding research.
