For road vehicles, motion without adhesion is an uncommon and exceptional condition, but it is very significant with regard to safety of traffic. While it is very important to know the reasons for the loss of effective adhesion between wheel and road, it seems of interest to determine the trajectory of a vehicle which has lost adhesion in order to predict whether it is possible to recover part of the transverse force, sufficient to restore control. The author represents the vehicle by a material point of large mass which has a non-zero initial speed, and he determines its trajectory assuming that it remains on the road. For all possible examples of straight sections of uniform or variable transverse slope, circular curves of uniform or variable transverse slope, and finally transition curves, analytical treatments and graphical representations of calculation results are presented.
