Samenvatting

The purpose of the project was to explore the effect of the reduced share of driving license holding among young people. Analysis of driving license statistics and populations statistics shows that the driving license rate does not increase in a given age cohort, which probably can be explained by an increase in the amount of non-Western immigrants in the population. Moreover, shows that young people today to a lesser degree use car than in 1992. However, car use has increased among older adults in the same period. The reduced car use among young people may be an effect of the reduction in the driving license rate among young people in the same period. However, the study shows that young people that do hold a driving license also drive less than before. In addition, those who take a driving license at a later point in life, use the car far less than those who take a driving license at an earlier point in life. The study finds no implications of the reduced driving license rate among young people on traffic accidents. (Author/publisher)
