Samenvatting

A comprehensive transportation study of an area of the Central Business District (CBD), Harare in Zimbabwe and sectorial studies of traffic impact on CBD environment and of mid-block service lanes proved that interactive analyses of relationships between land use and transportation of short-term projects in the context of long-term strategies can contribute significantly toward `sustainable' development. The content and methods of small scale studies as an effective intermediate methodology for implementing local plans are discussed in this paper. (A)
