Samenvatting

Smart cameras integrating optical sensors and image recognition processing are increasingly being used. Systems are selected on the basis of being able to cover a number of applications with sufficient operating speed and acceptable cost. The components of a typical system are described: digital optical sensor with pixel selection and signal conditioning circuits, RISC processor, vision co-processor and memory management logic. This architecture can be used for the following applications: vehicle recognition in parking applications; car counting, lane speed and queue detection in traffic control equipment; lateral control in vehicles; lane tracking; stereo determination of distance and object shape; car occupancy determination; biometrics recognition; and bus passenger counting. The future for single-chip smart sensors is described. For the covering abstract see ITRD E115762.
