Samenvatting

Motor vehicle crashes impose substantial costs on society. This report presents an estimate of the social cost for motor vehicle crashes and crash victims in Ontario based on data for 1990. Social costs are defined to include all consequences of motor vehicle crashes which negatively impact the production or consumption possibilities of society's members. Broadly defined, the impacts we are concerned with include: human consequences - death, injury, and related costs; property damage; time and material expended dealing with crashes. In measuring costs, we adopt the best methods available in the applied literature on cost estimation. (Author/publisher)
