Samenvatting

Researchers found that sending drivers with moving violations to court-initiated education programs such as traffic school failed to reduce these drivers' risk of getting into a crash in the future. The study, which excluded alcohol-related violations, found that license suspension or revocation worked best to reduce future crash risk. Distribution of informational or educational materials had no effect. Court-initiated education reduced future offenses, the study found, but did not reduce future crash risks. Warning letters had a small effect, reducing future violations by 6 percent and crashes by 4 percent.
