Samenvatting

Concerned with the number and severity of accidents involving vehicles striking bridges, the author collected accident history data on several bridges in Virginia. Geometric factors determined to contribute to the accident experiences include bridge roadway width, curving road approach alignment, curving bridge alignment, adjacent intersections, lane drops, and transitions. A number of remedial measures are suggested. (See also B 2717 for a preprint of this paper).
