Samenvatting

A simple broadbrush model of typical morning peak road travel is described, with illustrative results and implications for peak spreading research. A simple peak spreading model of urban car travel, spatially aggregated over an area, which examines how the shape of the peak flows changes with traffic demand. The model allows travellers the possibility of trading off extra travel time against the disutility of a different time of arrival. The values of travel time, early arrival and late arrival can all be different, and can vary for different groups of travellers. The speed of travel is assumed to depend on the number travelling using a simple speed /flow relationship.
