This article investigates the performance of all pedestrian crossings within Southampton, to get a better understanding of the situation, and in order to explore the relationship between near-sided and far-sided pedestrian crossing facilities. The study outcomes will allow the authority to be better informed about the benefits of the crossing technologies available. It will also assist in decision making regarding the installation of near sided crossings and the justification for converting far-sided crossing facilities. The paper outlines the process used for evaluating the different types of pedestrian crossings currently deployed within Southampton, and offers some conclusions based on the outcomes.
