Samenvatting

This paper reviews research on human spatial behavior and discusses implications of this work for the design and use of Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATIS). Models of spatial information processing and structure are used as frameworks for the discussion. Particular attention is paid to the structure of cognitive maps and how these structures affect and are affected by spatial behavior and spatial knowledge. Additionally, a comprehensive effort is made to identify significant gaps in current knowledge and to suggest topics for future research. (Author/publisher)
