Speed cameras and driver disqualification.

Samenvatting

Concern has been raised by both supporters and opponents of speed cameras that the exponential growth in speeding offences detected will lead to a large increase in the number of people disqualified from driving, which may have severe economic consequences for those involved and may also encourage unlicensed (and therefore uninsured) driving. However, recent figures released by the Home Office suggest that the growth in cameras and fixed penalty notices has not been matched by a growth in driver disqualifications. This may suggest that drivers at risk of disqualification may modify their behaviour to avoid losing their licences. (Author/publisher)
