Samenvatting

Speed cameras to identify and ticket speeders in Washington, D.C., have reduced speeding at certain locations. Despite their unfavorable press, about half of D.C. residents support the program, but that is far lower than the number that supports red light cameras. At some locations more than half the vehicles are traveling at least 10 mph above the speed limit. Officials estimate that excess speed is a factor in half the city's traffic deaths. Some 83% of residents say they know speed cameras are in use. (Author/publisher)
