Samenvatting

Speeds in a rural school zone as affected by several types of traffic control devices, including a dynamic speed violation sign, are studied. The dynamic signing, activated by speed measurement, warned individual drivers when they were in violation and was more effective in reducing speeds. None of the sets of devices, however, influenced drivers to obey the 15-mph limit; the best set yielded average speeds of 34 mph.
