The speed, density and flow of pedestrians on footways in shopping streets.

Samenvatting

Observations have been made of the movement of pedestrians on doorways in shopping streets at three sites, two in Oxfordstreet, London, and one in High street, Slough. At each site pedestrian movement on the footway was in two opposing directions with no cross flows. It was found that, within the limits of variability of the observations from these sites. The walking speed of the pedestrians was linearly related to the density of pedestrians on the footways.
