Samenvatting

The presentation includes the description of factors influencing speed of rail traffic in Finland. Some comparisons of speed management principles in different countries are made providing that the information from rail managers is available. For example in Finland it is not allowed to have level crossings if the maximum speed on rail is more than 140 km/h. In Sweden they can have automated level crossings even on rail with the maximum speed of 200 km/h. In road traffic the tendency is towards lower speed limits and other measures to lower the speed of traffic. On rail the situation is contrary. There is demand for high speed trains all over the world. One reason for that is the congestion on roads. Some comparisons between speed management on road and rail are included into the presentation. For the covering abstract see ITRD E123193.
