Preliminary data appraisal and analysis for ARRB Project 200 (speeds on curves) are presented. It was found that the observed speeds could be reasonably approximated by normal distributions, and that the coefficients of variation for these distributions were generally lower than those reported elsewhere in the literature Broad relationships are identified between curve operating speeds and curve geometric standard.
