This first part of a 2-part report reviews factorial design, discusses the requiremetns for an accurate analysis, and highlights some analytical shortcomings and instances of invalid and incomplete data analysis. Comments are made on the evolution of experimental design, and factorial design, statistical assumptions, the null hypothesis, and the f distribution. An example and interpretation are given.Part ii will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the factorial design in practice.
