Samenvatting

The steering geometry of single track vehicles is considered in a completely general sense and as a necessary first stop towards understanding the dynamics of these vehicles. The results are then specifically applied to an idealised motor cycle system having rigid tyres. The analysis, contained in an appendix, derives exact equations for wheel camber angle and slip angle, and the tyre/ground contact point displacement for a steering rotation at a given roll angle. In order to obtain a physical interpretation of the mechanism of contact point movement, these equations are simplified and discussed in the main body of the report.
