Samenvatting

In the past decade, extensive researches have been conducted on the impact of advanced traveler information systems (ATIS) on the change of traffic flow patterns in the mobile road networks. However, the growing availability of ATIS may not only change flow patterns, but also lead certain parts of transit users to change to drive to far distances, and thus has the effect of increasing total flow on the road. On the other hand, part of drivers may be worse off by the affect of increasing flow on road network, who may then give up driving and choose to use public transit. The work aims at providing a framework for the quantitative modeling of the impact of ATIS on a transportation system, including both road and transit networks, based on which some transportation policy may be designed for maximizing the overall social benefit of ATIS.
