Samenvatting

Driving the wrong way on freeways has been a nagging traffic safety problem since the interstate highway system was founded in the late 1950s. Despite 4 decades of highway striping and sign improvement at freeway interchanges, the problem persists. According to FHWA data, approximately 350 people are killed each year nationwide in wrong-way freeway crashes. This article looks at some steps being taken at both state and federal levels of government to deal with this serious traffic safety problem.
