Samenvatting
A new synthesis model, designed to explain the effects of modality specific information on short-term retention is presented and tested. The results pointed to qualitative differences between the effects of auditory and visual distracters on auditory and visually presented items. The results conformed to the models prediction of processing allocation to different levels of analysis in the memory system.
