A comparative investigation of the penalties imposed on persons guilty of driving under the influence of alcohol in four districts was made. In each district there is a market agreement between the public prosecutor and the judiciary concerning the degree of punishment to be imposes for driving while influenced. Factors taken into account when fixing the penalty are (1) the B.A.C.; (2) the degrees of drunkenness as assessed by the police; (3) previous convictions for driving while influence; and (4) other convictions for traffic offences.
