Samenvatting

Different techniques for co-ordinating traffic signals in an area have been subjected to full-scale tests by TRRL. The characteristics of the techniques and results of the tests are summarized. It is concluded that the case for using traffic-responsive systems is not proved because fixed-time plans based on historical data and calculated off-line by a technique such as TRANSYT or GISOP, gave a performance at least as good as any other technique tested and would have been less expensive to install.
