In several recent publications it has been stressed that research in the Netherlands in the field of transport and mobility is lacking in strategic value. Little attention is given to the work of integrating the results of various research projects, and the longer term changes in transport and mobility systems are often neglected. The Ministry of Education and Science has taken the initiative of forming the "Kerngroep Infrastructuur, Transport & Logistiek", whose main task is formulating a research programme for the longer term, to overcome the problems mentioned above.The "Kerngroep" focuses its attention on questions of transport and infrastructure, as far as they are related to developments of an economic or environmental nature, and having spatial implications.
