Samenvatting

Current technological advances offer the driver access to a range of complex intelligent transportation systems. Some of these systems include navigation, route guidance, and collision-avoidance systems. Such systems provide the driver with additional information, for example, advice on headway, which the driver can use or ignore. Future technological developments promise fully automated transportation systems (FATS: Brand, 1998) in which the vehicle's braking, steering, and acceleration functions are automated.
