Samenvatting

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the structural response of lower leg muscles in compression. Posterior and lateral impacts were performed on lower leg muscles of volunteers and cadavers along with a Hybrid II Dummy leg. The data was used to characterize the overall compressive response of muscle subjected to impact. The data acquired in this study can be used to test various material laws for muscle subjected to traverse compression using finite element modeling. In general the force-deflection response was found to be stiffer in lateral direction than in posterior direction.
