Samenvatting

This paper presents the common framework for risk assessment of ADAS Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, which has been developed within ADVISORS project. It is based on a conventional Failure Mode and Effects Analysis Methodology, which has been revised and extended to problems caused by driver's errors (driver behaviour), legal, insurance and organisational problems. For each type of ADAS, the relevant problems (in addition to technical problems) have been identified and are analysed by the use of the following indicators: severity, occurrence probability, detectability and recoverability. For each identified type of problem, the failure effect, cause, detection and recognition, and mitigation strategies are also defined. This procedure enables an Overall Risk Number (by equation) to be defined for each ADAS. Selected results from the overall risk analysis for an Adaptive Cruise Control, an Intelligent Speed Adaptation, an Extended Navigation and a Driver Status Monitoring system are presented in this paper.
