A network structure for broadband telecommunication has been designed for the Netherlands. The objective of this new network has been determined: the supply of new telecommunication services by means of new infrastructure. On the medium term this network is built in the main urban areas (nodal regions), and on the long term it is constructed in the remaining centres (nodal centres). For the Netherlands this strategy implies: a) construction of broadband networks in the four metropolitan areas (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag, Utrecht); b) interconnecting these networks (Randstad network); c) linking this Randstad network to the European broadband network; d) construction of a broadband network in other nodal regions; e) extension of the national network by linking up these regional networks; and f) construction and connection of broadband networks near other centres.
