Samenvatting

The four studies included in this report had the following objectives: (1) conduct an analysis of accident data in an effort to discern the information needed by drivers to avoid rear-end collisions; (2) evaluate the ability of drivers to identify the intended information content of rear signal systems; (3) evaluate the technique to measure the response of drivers to rear marking and signalling systems; and (4) evaluate the ability of drivers to detect changes in the dynamic relationship between their own vehicle and a lead vehicle.
