Samenvatting

This paper describes the work in defining evolutionary concepts for an automated highway system. 3 kinds of concept families on progressive deployment paths, AHS-i (Information), AHS-c (Control) and AHS-a (Automated cruising), are defined as a prospective candidate solution for technical and societal issues on a fully automated highway system materialization. Applicable countermeasure systems improving the crash avoidance capabilities of drivers and vehicles are defined based on preliminary accident analysis.
