Samenvatting

The purpose of this work is to present research, with the help of a recently developed computer simulation for the thermodynamic processes in spark-ignition internal combustion engines, on the influence of the gas fuel composition on engine operating variables. The adjustment and the precision of the simulation program was checked, by a comparative analysis between calculated and experimental data, for a spark-ignited engine operating with natural gas. Then, through the adjustment of the parameters of the combustion process to the gas properties, it was possible to obtain a comparison between calculated and experimental data for a turbocharged engine operating with biogas. With these results, it was possible to simulate and predict the influence of the biogas composition in the combustion process, in the engine performance and efficiency.
