Samenvatting

There presently does not exist in Canada a truck driver training simulator device which satisfies the needs of the trucking community. A number of simulators have been identified, but all fall short of the "wish list" developed by the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association (APTA). The simulator which most closely met the requirements listed by the APTA was DuPont's Truck Driving Safety (TDS) trainer. Though it fell far short of fulfilling the APTA's "wish list", it did incorporate many features which were desirable. This report briefly describes the TDS trainer, the studies done with it, as well as presents findings. The authors conclude that it is probably not feasible that any single device be capable of performing all the tasks outlined by the group. They believe it is more likely that the answer lies in developing several devices which can handle different aspects of training.
